The governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari has revealed that he was tricked twice by bandits who pretended to have repented and surrendered their arms.
Governor Masari made this revelation when he received some delegates from the United Nations Development Programme in Katsina, on Friday.
He disclosed that the bandits who claimed to be Muslims were urged to swear by the Holy Quran that they would not go back to banditry.
“Because they (terrorists) said they are Muslims, we went as far as asking them to swear to the Holy Qur’an that they will never participate in banditry again”.
He further claimed that those who had been imprisoned but later released, went back to banditry after their release.
“All of them did in this office but even those that have been in jail for over two years that were brought out are today bandits’ leaders,” Masari said.
The governor added that he will not dialogue with the bandits anymore and noted that whoever chooses to do so, should.
“Anybody who says he is going to engage them on anything is free. I will pray for him but I will not do it again”.
He revealed that the bandits have also betrayed governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle three times . He further urged president Muhammadu Buhari to reopen the borders. According to him, despite the borders being shut, Katsina state and neighbouring states have continued to witness rise in banditry.
“The borders should be reopened, and measures should be taken to ensure that law and order in the borders are adhered to,” Masari said.
