A masquerade has been consumed by fire during a cultural festival in Ogbunike town, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to reports, the masquerade was performing in a raffia costume in the Elim Ede Cultural Festival in the town and was burnt to death while pulling a fire stunt.

Eye-witness accounts posit that the masquerade attendants in the process of leading the masquerade to Amawa Square initiated a fire stunt in front of the masquerade that was sitting on the ground then, and immediately extinguished It.
In the account of the eye-witness:
“Unknown to the attendants, the fire had entered the raffia costume worn by the masquerade, and before they could put it off, it spread all over the body of the masquerade, causing the man in it, serious burns.”
It was gathered that the masquerade sustained serious burns was rushed to the hospital, where he gave up the ghost in the evening of the next day.
