Former Pope of the Catholic church, Benedict XVI , formerly Josef Ratzinger when he was the archbishop of Munich from 1977 to 1982, has confessed to being complicit to the sexual abuses of minors during his reign as the archbishop of Munich.
A recent report showed that Pope Benedict mishandled several cases of child sex abuse by priests under him. The report claim that pope Benedict failed to act against the accused priests who allegedly violated minors. Despite the magnitude of the alleged crime, the accused priests continued to serve under Benedict’s watch.
On February 8th, 2022, the former Pope, in a letter from the Vatican city, sought forgiveness for his inability to act against the indicted priests at that time and however did not admit to committing any personal wrong.
The letter from the former Pope reads in part: “I have had great responsibilities in the Catholic Church. All the greater is my pain for the abuses and the errors that occurred in those different places during the time of my mandate. As in those meetings, once again I can only express to all the victims of sexual abuse my profound shame, my deep sorrow and my heartfelt request for forgiveness”

He expressed his readiness to die and appear before God for his final judgement: “Quite soon, I shall find myself before the final judge of my life”.
Recall that late last year, some Catholic priests in Pennsylvania were accused of paedophile; this, subsequently roused dust over the Catholic priests continued celibacy in the face of incessant reports of their violation of minors, rapes and involvement in sexual relationships.
