PDP Wins Abuja Juiciest Local Govt, Wins 3 Out Of Four LGA’s Announced So Far (See Results Announced)

 The candidate of Nigeria’s major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Christopher Zakka (Maikalangu) has been declared the winner of the just concluded chairmanship election for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Zakka  polled 19,302 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Murtala Karshi (Yamarayi) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who came second with 13,429 votes.

The Abuja Municipal Area Council known as AMAC is the most cosmopolitan of the six area councils in Abuja, has 12 wards and includes the city centre of the Nigerian capital.’

In the AMAC results officially declared by the INEC Returning Officer, Sani Saka, the PDP won in 10 wards while the APC won in only two.

With the victory in AMAC, the PDP has now won in three of the four area councils whose final results had been declared as of 11:55 a.m. on Sunday. The others won by the PDP are Kuje and Bwari. The APC has so far won in Gwagwalada Area Council.

Also, the PDP Candidate in the Bwari Area Council, Mr. John Gabaya has been declared by The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the council polls.

Mr Gabaya, the incumbent chairman polled 13,045 votes to defeat his closest rival, Audi Shekwolo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 7,697 votes.

 In the results announced on Sunday morning by the INEC Returning Officer, Amochi Madu, who announced the result on Sunday morning, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abubakar Abdullahi, polled 603 votes to come to a distant third position.

The PDP has also captured the Kuje Area Council as it won in all the 10 wards in the area council.

Sule Magaji, the INEC Returning Officer for the Kuje Area Council election, while announcing the final results on Sunday morning, declared Suleman Sabo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the February 12 Kuje Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.

 

Mr Sabo, the council’s incumbent chairman gathered a total of 13,301 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sarki Hamidu of the All Progressive Congress (APC), who secured 7,694 votes to emerge second.
