Two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC): Amarachukwu Asonta( 27) and Adebayo Ajayi (32) were arraigned before an Ikeja High Court over alleged theft of Chelsea and action Bitters alcoholic drinks worth N2.7million.
The accused persons who are standing trial for conspiracy and armed robbery, allegedly carried out the crime at 2:20 a.m. on January 30th, 2018, along Yaya Abatan Road, Ogba, Lagos. The director of Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jide Martins told the court that the accused hijacked an Iveco container conveying the said product.
"The defendants and others who are now at large, while armed with guns and other offensive weapons, hijacked an Iveco container truck with registration number – LSR746XD. The truck contained 1,700 cartons of Chelsea and Action Bitters drinks valued at N2.7million, waybills, mobile phones and an unspecified amount of cash".
“My lord, the matter has been on since 2018. The defendants are officers of the NSCDC. They have been evading the court and the court issued a bench warrant for their arrest.

The presiding Justice, Oyindamola, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in correctional center pending the date the application for bail will be heard. The trial further adjourned to February 23rd, 2022 for the hearing of the application for bail by the defendants.
