CAF Set To Sanction Egypt Over Silly Act In The Just Concluded AFCON

Just after the concluded African Nations Cup (AFCON) tournament, a journalist who was covering the final match between Senegal and Egypt came online to share pictures of how Egypt goal keeper, Mohamed Qotb Abou Gabal Ali, engaged in unprofessional act during the penalty shootout between both teams.

After the penalty shootout, the Journalist picked up the table water that the Egyptian goalkeeper had written records of some Senegalese players penalty kick stats and preferences.

According to the Journalist who posted some pictures to prove his points, he alleged that the table water bottle has list of all Senegal players’ penalty preferences on it; the reason the Egyptian goalkeeper kept  consulting the bottle.

The journalist also alleged that the Egyptian goalkeeper used the bottle water against Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and then Senegal; however, it was not enough to get his team (Egypt)a victory as Senegal won in the finals to emerge African Champion.

However, many people have reacted to the picture by the Journalist as an Instagram user @Dele wrote – “This is pure cheating, but it is not everyone that uses expo will pass. Salah could have taken the penalty earlier. I see a lot of people praising him and saying he did his home work. No doubt he did, but this is similar to someone taking an expo to the exam hall after serious preparation. There’s nothing dignifying in it. He was supposed to have a mental picture of his preparation. Rather he was constantly consulting his bottle water before taking his stand in the goal post”.

Also, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been urged to sanction Egypt over the unprofessional act by the goalkeeper.

However, CAF is reported to be considering sanctioning the player in particular as it is believed that his offence is not a collective one but a personal wrong.
