MKPURU MMIRI, Methamphetamine has not only regrettably deformed a lot of Nigerian youths domestically but now in foreign land.

It's enticing to watch the antics of a mad man but harrowing to have one as a brother. The viral video of a Nigerian man completely stripped after taking Methamphetamine otherwise known as mkpuru mmiri puts an emblem of shame on every patriotic Nigerian.

The origin of Methamphetamine, a crystal narcotic hallucinogen can be traced to World War II when soldiers consumed the man-made substance when embarking on a daredevil mission or to stay awake in harsh conditions.

Thereafter, little was recorded on the use of the hard substance that leaves unwanted marks on its addicts. Symptoms such as violent display as seen in this video, harshness of the skin, mood swing, quick aging, lack of sleep, fear and many others characterize its addicts.

This substance is rumoured to have found it way into the Igbo land from South Africa. Exola TV in a fact finding mission, ascertained that the drugs found it way into the southeast region of the country through an unnamed South Africa returnee. The drug dealer had subsequently made fortune out of the gullible Nigerian youths.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the agency responsible for curbing crime related to illicit drug sales, production and consumption, despite its spirited effort to curb the mpku mmiri menace, it continued to spread like wildfire among the Igbo youths in particular.

The agency had in October uncovered one of the mpkuru mmiri factories in Enugu State, also arrested three Suspects found at the scene. 

Furthermore, local authority and youth organizations in Igbo land have adopted different preventive and deterrent measures including public flogging and shaming of mpkuru mmiri victims.

The Southeast Governors Forum had in its effort to end the unwanted marks of mpkuru mmiri, issued a statement noting that any shop where mpkuru mmiri is being sold will be confiscated by the state government. Notably, the governors forum also declared that victims of the hard substance are currently undergoing rehabilitations across the  five southeast states.

In our fact finding, the consumption of mpkuru mmiri is predominant among the frustrated, jobless youths who resorted to mpkuru mmiri consumption to ease their frustration.

However, there are some who were Influenced into consuming mkpu mmiri via peer pressure.
