It is no longer a piece of news that Queen Sikekunola Naomi, the embattled wife of a prominent Yoruba king, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja ll, had in a lengthy Facebook post, announced her separation from the king after three years of marriage.
Her reasons for her decision to divorce the king was however vaguely stated. In the post, she alleged that the king is a man of double standard whose personality contradicts his public image. She added that neither religion nor the king’s fidelity was the reason for the crisis in their marriage: "the decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen”, she wrote
“I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle, but I have finally realised I had just one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done. He chose Saul to be king, and when He was done, He told the prophet Samuel I have moved on. Religion was never an issue between us; please refer to my interview on News Central TV. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he would love the world to see and perceive him as and another one which is his true self.”
However, investigations into the root cause of the crisis between the king and his former queen reveal that interference from Queen Naomi's family in her marriage, aggravated by her habitual defence of their questionable actions which among is Naomi's brother's betrayal of the king's trust by mishandling a 1 billion Naira building project, was the last straw that broke the camel's back.
The Story: the king was set to undertake the most luxurious Housing and Property Resort in South-West Nigeria, sited at Akure, the Ondo State capital. Interestingly, the king appointed his brother-in-law, Gbenro to oversee the building project.
Reports have it that Gbenro who is a brother to Queen Naomi's rather than utilize the 1 Billion Naira initially given to him for the project, played tricks on the king by going for substandard building materials, the reason for the incomplete buildings developing cracks while some collapsed.

Consequently, the king decided to relief the responsibility from his brother-in-law while forfeiting the 1 billion naira he had given to Gbenro even as an evaluator of the work done at the site stated that only 500 million had been spent on the site at the expense of the 1 billion naira which Gbenro claimed he had expended.
The decision of the king to give the project to a more competent hand at the expense of Gbenro, didn't go down well with Queen Naomi. Hence, she decided to protest the king's decision through ways considered infuriating and disrespectful of the royal family. It's reported that she informed the king that she would no longer continue in the marriage unless his brother was reinstated.
