A civilian, Afro-american, named Deshawn Pressley has received a Citizen Award for single-handedly hunting down a pickpocket and detaining him until police arrived.
The thief went into a supermarket and stole a purse belonging to an 87-year-old elderly citizen.
Deshawn Pressley, 27 years old, was presented with a Citizen’s Award from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office after Pressley stopped a purse-snatcher at a Kroger grocery store.

In a video that has now gone viral on Twitter, Pressley can be seen chasing 58-year-old Derek Vauhn out of the front door of Kroger grocery store in Lemon Township, Ohio after Vauhn had stolen the purse from the 87-year-old woman.
But Pressley chased him, arrested him and detained him. Pressley said of the old woman:
"I just turned around and did what I had to do as a citizen and I'm glad I helped her because she's a wonderful, lovely lady and I just love helping people, especially older women."
Pressley talked about his grandmother who took him in when his mother died when he was young. She had rules and Pressley said she raised him right.
'I’m glad I helped her, because she’s a wonderful, lovely lady."
