"Going to Libya is like paying for your death"-Returnee migrant shares horrible experience

A 25 year old man, Solomon Obie has recounted the horrible experience he went through when he travelled to Libya, in the hope of crossing to over to Europe.

Solomon said he and other Nigerians travelled through the Sahara Desert to the North African country with hopes of crossing the Mediterranean Sea into Germany.

Sharing his experience, he said the desert is just one of the first obstacle, and if anyone survives it during the journey, they may be kidnapped on getting to the North African country.

Solomon shared how he was sent to prison twice while in the war torn nation, but he was able to escape while he and others were being shot at.

He said he decided to embark on the journey to Libya because he wanted a better life for himself and his family.

The 25 year old recounted how people were forced to drink their own urine and refused to share with others who were also thirsty.

According to him, at some point on the journey, their vehicle broke down in the desert. That resulted in the death of a lot of people who could not survive the harsh conditions.

Solomon said he was convinced by photos and stories of other Nigerians that made it to Europe through the same route, but didn’t know they went through such a horrific experience.

He said those that eventually make it to Libya get kidnapped, and their families would be contacted to pay a ransom or risk getting killed.

"I went to prison twice. Almost 300 people were put in a small room the size of parlor.

“The money they were demanding was too much. But God helped us.”

“We ran out of the building. They were shooting at us and some were hit with bullets."
