Fani-Kayode: the Judas who puts his mouth where his belly is

It is no longer news that former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has once again shifted political camps having joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the main opposition, People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Fani-Kayode, in his usual pompous manner confirmed the news in an interview on Channels TV's magazine programme, Politics Today.

Speaking at the interview, Fani-Kayode threw all integrity to the winds in an unsurprising act of shamelessness, when he claimed there is no point holding on to principles when you don't have the political power to effect them.

There is no gain saying that the comment, beyond even the political camp switching has sparked negative reactions amongst observers of Nigerian political terrain.

But why are people concerned?

Fani-Kayode has been the only spark of opposition that the unbearable APC led Federal Government has faced in the six years of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

He has on more than one occasion distanced himself completely from any idea of joining forces with the APC (from where he decamped to PDP by the way), and condemned others that have made such moves.

On one particular occasion, Fani-Kayode swore with his life that he'd never join the ruling party.

For newer political observers, Fani-Kayode is the voice of the oppressed. He is the one who became their friends because they had a common enemy in the Federal Government led by Buhari. They may have been bought over by his rhetorics of division and oppression. Little did they know that his noise over oppression lacks every bit of sincerity.

But does everyone fall for his tricks?

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo once described Fani-Kayode as man who is only concerned about his stomach. Having made him minister, President Obasanjo may know him much more than anyone else after all. For the records, Fani-Kayode once turned on the former president when things went sour between them.

Where does this leave fellow aggrieved politicians in the struggle?

Former Media Aid to President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri has since reacted to the development.

His comments insinuate that Fani-Kayode may not be different from Judas Iscariot, having betrayed the cause he claimed to be fighting for.
